Day 1
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali
You are welcomed at Kigali International Airport (KGL) by your personal guide. Transfer to your mid lodge in Volcanoes National Park. Evening briefing about the days ahead. Dinner at the lodge.

Day 2
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking — Volcanoes National Park
Briefing at 07:00 at Volcanoes National Park headquarters. You are assigned to the Umubano family. The trek takes 4-6 hours trekking through bamboo forest at 2500-4507m. Porters ($15) carry daypacks. When you find the family, you have exactly one hour to observe them. Success rate: 99%. Return to your lodge for a celebratory dinner. Entry to Volcanoes National Park: $$1,500 (gorilla permit) per person. The campfire is lit. Stories will be told.

Day 3
Day 3: Golden Monkey Trek & Cultural Village
Morning trek to see the endangered golden monkeys — only 4,000 remain in the Virunga. The trek is shorter and easier than gorilla trekking. After lunch, visit a cultural village to learn about traditional Rwanda life: Intore dance, herbal medicine, banana beer brewing, archery. Return to your lodge for dinner and sunset views. The trek lasts 4-6 hours trekking at 2500-4507m elevation. Overnight at your mid lodge with views of Volcanoes National Park.

Day 4
Day 4: Dian Fossey Tomb Hike
Hike to the Karisoke Research Center and Dian Fossey's tomb, between Mount Bisoke and Mount Karisimbi. The hike takes 3-5 hours round trip, ascending through bamboo and Hagenia forest to 3,000m. Fossey lived here 18 years and changed how the world sees gorillas. Return to your lodge for a late lunch. Permit for Volcanoes National Park: $1500, booked 6 months ahead. Freshen up and join your group for a shared meal.

Day 5
Day 5: Arrival & Cultural Welcome
Upon arrival, you are greeted with a traditional welcome ceremony — songs, drums, smiles. Transfer to accommodation, then visit a local market — colorful and alive. Your guide introduces you to vendors and explains the cultural significance of foods and crafts. Welcome dinner featuring traditional dishes. Best time: June-September & December-February (dry season). Return to your lodge for a celebratory dinner.

Day 6: Village Immersion
Full day in a local village, immersed in daily life. Welcomed into a family home, participate in cooking, farming, crafting. The village elder shares stories. Communal lunch with the family. Afternoon crafts. Evening: traditional dance and stories by the fire. Nearest town: Musanze. Return to camp for a massage and dinner.

Day 7: Historical Sites & Museum
Visit significant historical sites — ancient ruins, colonial-era buildings, monuments. After lunch, visit a museum where artifacts offer deeper insight. End with a visit to an art gallery or artisan cooperative. Entry fee: $$1,500 (gorilla permit). The evening is yours — read, relax, or stargaze.

Day 8: Arrival & Transfer to Safari Lodge
You are met at Kigali International Airport (KGL) by your safari guide. The drive to your lodge passes through savannah and acacia woodland. Welcome drink, check-in, and sunset views from the terrace. Dinner followed by a briefing on tomorrow's game drive. Drive from Kigali: 116 km (2.5 hours). Sleep under canvas. Wake to birdsong.

Day 9: Full Day Big Five Game Drive
Depart at dawn for a full day of wildlife exploration. Morning game drives are the most productive — lions returning from the hunt, elephants at waterholes, giraffes browsing acacia.
